Last season Isaiah Thomas, of the Boston Celtics, averaged 29 points and 6 assists per game. Those numbers are remarkable, especially considering his 5'9" stature. That being said, is it something that can be repeated? Can Isaiah Thomas do exactly what he did last season?
First off, we need to get it out there that Isaiah Thomas is most likely going to be healthy. There has been a good amount of talk recently concerning his hip injury. Well, if my information is correct, Isaiah Thomas is at just about 100%. Any source I have talked to has, more or less, told me the exact same thing. He is healthy. So all of that talk about surgery being needed, but Thomas electing to skip-out on it due to this being a contract year, is nothing that should carry weight.
I believe Isaiah Thomas can do it again. I believe Isaiah Thomas will average just about the same as he did, 28ppg and 6apg. Now, he may be a bit lower in scoring, say 25ppg. However, his assists per game will rise to be around 8apg. Why? Well, he has a better scorer to dish it to. Gordon Hayward. Add that to the fact that he has become a far better passer year in and year out, you've got yourself a playmaker.
So the 25 points and 8 assists per game stat line does seem a bit different. However, it is essentially the same thing. A remarkable stat line. The stat line of a star in the NBA.
We should all be past the point of "this is just a phase, he isn't THIS good." Thomas put on a show for all NBA fans for the entirety of last season. At some point, you all should've taken a step back and realized that is just the player he is. A dynamite scorer, one in which cannot be stopped.
How long can Isaiah keep it up for? That, I don't have the answer to. He relies on his quickness and first step. That is something that'll dwindle away as he gets older. However, I don't see it happening ANY time soon.
Isaiah Thomas is Isaiah Thomas. He is not just some phase like "Linsanity" was. Isaiah Thomas did it for 76 games in the 2016-17 season. And the season before last he played in ALL 82 games and scored the rock incredibly well.
This is my guy. I have followed him closely since his Washington days. The second he showed the world that he was a superstar, I was a, what most had thought, crazy person now proven sane.
Isaiah Thomas is Isaiah Thomas.
I have no doubt in my mind that Isaiah will keep up the, again, remarkable play heading into the 2017-18 NBA season.
My prediction? 25.4 points and 8.1 assists per game...
