Every year one lucky person either wins the right or gets lucky enough to have the first overall pick in the fantasy football draft. However, drafting first comes with the most pressure because all eyes are on you to take the stud player of the year. If you pull a Cleveland and take someone that's a total bust and pans out horribly then everyone in the league is going to hold that over you. That's why you need to make sure that the player absolutely has the ability to gain massive numbers of points and is reliable on a weekly basis.
So who should you draft first overall? The answer is simple, Cam Newton is the guy. Everyone says not to draft a QB in the first round, but with weapons like Kelvin Benjamin and Ted Ginn Jr. Cam Newton is sure to rack up points. Also, having the ability to run for maybe 30 yards a game at the most will add points so his already impressive numbers. Last year, he totaled 389 points and this year he could easily reach 410 with the return of lineman Ryan Kalil and Michael Oher.
So when everyone gives you flack for drafting a QB in the first round, you just tell them that the massive point totals are absolutely worth all of it. Also, in an 8 man league you’ll probably have missed out in some of the best running backs, but Ezekiel Elliott will rack up yards this year because Romo is out, so don’t sleep on him as a late second round pick.
