Carmelo Anthony is one of the top names on the trade market this NBA season. Although Melo is a talent he carries a lot of baggage that not a lot of team want to deal with. He has turned the New York Knicks into a laughing stock and a perpetual eastern conference dud. Bringing in older players this season was a thought that did not work out well at all. When Kyle O’Quinn is the top trade commodity on a team with Rose, Melo, and Noah you know your organization is in a tough spot. I will be honest I don’t watch the Knicks much, would much rather watch paint dry or rearrange my sock drawer on a slow night. Okay anyway the top two places Melo could land are the Celtics and Raptors.
Why Melo will land with the Celtics: There are three major reasons why Carmelo makes sense with the Celtics. One, Melo is a scorer and Danny Ainge knows this teams needs one more scorer to take them over the top and getting Butler or George will be almost impossible, they will settle with Melo. Two, Jae Crowder who Phil Jackson loves and also Jae is doing himself a disservice right now with the Boston sports fans. Third, the picks, maybe not this year’s coveted first round Nets picks, but what about 2018 first round pick of their own? I don’t know call me crazy, but as the deadline gets closer Celtics will be pressured and they may commit.
Why the Raptors: Melo needs to go to a place where he will not be in the lime light 24/7 and Toronto could be that place for him. When he played in Denver all I heard about was how great he was and how he will change the game forever, why? No one cares about Denver! The Raptors are young, talented, and quietly go about their business. Along with the quietness Toronto has two former teammates of Melo. During the 2016 Olympics Melo teamed up with DeRozan and Lowry and it seemed to workout pretty well for them. Also, when Melo was up in Toronto for the All-Star break he talked about how beautiful this place was.
This is all great and dandy, but Melo still has a no trade clause and he does not want to leave his home. Even more than that he wants to protect his pride and not let Phil win.
