So obviously there is so much buzz dancing around the Jimmy Garoppolo trade topic. I'm here to say...who really gives a flying you know what. If I am able to say that (a huge Jimmy guy) then any other Patriots fan, or even NFL fan, should be able to talk themselves into the same mindset.
So yeah the Patriots said they are certainly not trading Jimmy. Then we hear rumors about the possibility of him being available for the right price... so it's truly just going back and forth. Is he available or not?
Either way, in my mind the Patriots will be FINE. The landing spot of Garoppolo does not mean anything at all to the Patriots organization (in terms of success). If they keep him and he becomes the next QB, then hell yeah. This guy has been groomed for the job for multiple years. If they trade him and get some awesome return (like a valuable draft pick(s)) then hell yeah again...
No matter what ends up happening it is a win win for New England. Now, you might be telling yourself, "but I want Jimmy to stay and take over for Tom." Yes, that'd be great. Really great. However, you do not need to handcuff yourself to the outcome. For many reasons.
First off, if they keep Brady and he stays healthy for (for the sake of argument) three or four more years, you think Garoppolo is going to be fine just sitting around for that time? Missing valuable years in his career? No, not a chance. Also, if they keep him...what if HE leaves? What then?
One of the things that drives me bananas is how people say "Oh, well Brady is 40 years old...one hit and he's done."
Are you kidding me? Brady has had ONE real injury in his entire career, which most certainly includes plenty of having to take hard hits. Jimmy Garoppolo took a single hit and was injured and out. So even in their respective ages, ask yourself, who is more durable?
The second thing you need to remember when wanting to keep Garoppolo is the fact that Jacoby Brissett is here too. Say Jimmy actually holds out for a few more years, you then are put in a similar debacle. We cannot forget about Brissett. They placed him back on the active roster for a REASON. They believe he is good too.
Hell, do you think Bill Parcells would be spending his free time working on someone's game if he (one of the greatest football minds) didn't think the kid could ball?
Now, the other side of things...
If you don't like him and want him to get traded, there is blow back for that too. What if he is good? What if he is the next Tom Brady? That is not worth 1 million first round draft picks.
If he could truly fill those shoes then they need to keep him. That is a big IF though.
All I am trying to say here is who really cares? The Patriots will dominate in the near future regardless of where Jimmy Garoppolo lands. That is the fact of the matter.
So we can stop worrying about it. Whatever happens, happens.
