Need help setting your fantasy lineup this week? Checkout my list of Start 'Ems and Sit 'Ems
QB Phillip Rivers
In his last 14 games, Rivers has thrown at least 2 touchdowns 12 times. Going up against a Raiders D that has let up the 15th most fantasy points to opposing Quarterbacks. Expect the Chargers to throw the ball and then throw some more.
Now I know you probably have a better QB on your roster as I do, but sometimes you need to roll the dice to get the win. Also we are in BYE week territory. The Titans Defense has let up the most passing touchdowns this year (12), and are in store for a high scoring shootout. Not a lot of defense on either side. If you are someone who is waiting until we see if Mariota is going to play, a good option is Jacoby. Like I said he is a good second option, and I believe he will put up good numbers
Anytime your Quarterback says they don’t think they have it anymore, a huge red flag should appear in your head. I expect lots and lots of Le’Veon Bell, as I think he will receive 30+ touches. It also does not help when you are going up against a tough Kansas City D on the road. We all know how Big Ben plays on the road.
Now I could absolutely see Carr going off if he does indeed play, but I find it hard to believe that someone who was expected to miss weeks is going to be slated to start. Until I see him perform with no limitations, I do not trust him yet. Like I said, if he is fully healthy I expect him to do well, but I need to see it to believe it. Oh and yeah, they are going up against the Chargers 4th ranked pass defense. Is this the week we see Amari Cooper catch more balls than he drops? We will find out.
Alvin Kamara/Mark Ingram
With the departure of Adrian Peterson, the Saints will feature a more balanced and lethal attack in the backfield. They have the best of both worlds. A workhorse early down back in Ingram, and a shifty sure handed player who almost plays like a natural receiver. I expect BOTH of these players to contribute heavily. PPR team owners should be drooling over Kamara. In his last 2 games, Kamara has caught 13 passes. Coming off a bye week, expect the Saints offense to get rolling with this two headed monster.
Duke Johnson Jr.
No team has given up more passing touchdowns to RBs than the Houston Texans. Johnson leads the Browns in targets, yards, and receptions. Expect Cleveland to find him early and often. It helps that Crowell has been nothing in that offense.
What a shocker he has been right? The 41st ranked fantasy RB, and has yet to score. Until he shows me he can be consistent and actually be productive, I am not going to start him. I know he was a high pick, and you feel like he is a must start, but look at players drafted way behind him that still might even be picked up on waivers: Alvin Kamara, Chris Thompson. These players have been better as of late, and you need to roll with the hot hand. Oh and yeah, he is non existent in the passing game. Sorry PPR owners. Now I know this column says Sit ‘Em, and I don’t expect people to. Just realize he may not produce RB2 numbers, or even a flex.
Hyde has been pretty good besides of late. Last weeks abysmal line of 8 carries for 11 yards really made owners cringe. But I mean he is still the 12th ranked RB. The Redskins come in with the 12th ranked run defense in the league, and have proven to be tough on opposing RBs. Have you heard of Matt Breida? If you haven’t you better get to know him. This man is starting to get carries, and doing pretty well with the opportunities given. Hyde needs to stay healthy to be productive. That might be the issue.
Marvin Jones Jr.
I have been high on him for weeks now and he has let me down. But if there is a week to start him without hesitation, it is this week. The Lions are traveling to New Orleans to play the Saints. He is first in vertical targets down the field, and the Saints rank 31st in vertical pass plays per attempt. If you have a flex spot open, plug Jones in and watch him go.
No Diggs means more Thielen. He has shown he is a must start each week with his consistent performances. He is the 22nd ranked WR, and has at least 5 catches in every game. A favorable matchup against GB, makes the Vikings #1 WR this week a no doubter.
I think you all saw this coming. Until Cooper becomes relevant, I am not starting him. He has 13 catches for 118 yards and one touchdown. Through 5 games. If you believe in Cooper that is great, but until I hear his name being called on the T.V. screen, I am staying far away from him.
He has a favorable matchup with the Bears, but I am not buying it. Yes he is the leading target getter on the Ravens, but it is clear that means nothing. He is the 46th ranked WR, and is averaging just 7 fantasy points per game (ESPN .5 PPR). Now if you are in a deep league and need a flex then maybe you roll the dice, but beware. He should not be started in standard or PPR leagues.
I have been down on Henry this year as he has not lived up to the hype that was around him. This will change. Henry was targeted 8 times last week with a stat line of 3 catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. Going up against a Raiders shaky D, I believe Henry and Rivers will be on the same page and produce.
I know they are playing Denver and I know all of the Giants WRs are hurt. But at this point in time, Engram is too talented not to get involved in the game. He is going to be the guy, and is going to be fed targets. Volume is going to become a factor, and Engram is going to get it. Start ‘Em based on who else they have to throw the ball.
The Vikings D has shown to be one of the premier in the league. Bennett has been kept in to block more often, making it difficult for him to make a big impact in the passing game. He had just 3 catches last week, and has gone over 50 yards receiving just once. In leagues that start a TE, I would look for another option.
Yes he is the 13th ranked TE. But he is going up against a Charger D that has allowed ZERO touchdowns to opposing Tight Ends this year. I know it has only been 5 weeks, but I think the trend will continue. I also recommend playing in a league with an extra flex instead of the TE. Just a suggestion.
