Blake Swihart’s adopted brother Romell Jordan, a former college football player at the University of New Mexico, has passed away tragically at the age of 23. No details are available at this time regarding cause of death. Earlier this morning, the Red Sox held an emergency meeting in their clubhouse to address yet another tragedy that has rocked their clubhouse (well respected Boston Globe beat writer Nick Cafardo passed away suddenly a few days earlier).
Initially, things were pretty cryptic. David Price tweeted this out:
Shortly after, the Red Sox' normal media availability was altered so that Alex Cora could address the press. Cora once again handled his role of stoic leader with grace and compassion when addressing the recent tragedy:
Then it became official when the news was tweeted out by Sox reporter Ian Browne, although details on the cause of death have not been released.
The Red Sox are far removed from the 25 guys, 25 cabs mentality they were notorious for in the late 80's. Hopefully the Swihart family can find solace in that an entire organization is showing love and support for them. Guy Boston Sports would also like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the Swihart family, who request privacy at this time.
