From the minute Brandin Cooks was traded from the Saints to the Patriots, there was a bit of skepticism in my mind. Not regarding Cooks' skill, but rather how he could fit into the offense. Would he mesh with Brady? Would he play well alongside Edelman and Gronkowski? There were plenty of questions in my mind. The biggest of all was, would Brady trust him? All Patriots fans know Brady's trust is not easily earned. Yet it is necessary to perform as a receiver on the Patriots.
Apparently that is not an issue. So far, so good. Brandin Cooks is lighting up training camp. He is one of, if not the best receiver out there. Cooks and Brady are already starting to click. In fact, they have been seen putting in extra work with one another after camp. Good sign.
That’s one of the smartest things you can do with the limited amount of time we have on the field, to figure out what he’s thinking and getting on that same page
So all Brandin Cooks reports seem to point in an extremely positive direct. That is stellar news. It sounds like he is able to play with Edelman and Gronk as well.
Like I said before, it was just a bit of skepticism. I was never completely worried Cooks on the Patriots was a bad idea. He was one of my favorite receivers prior to becoming a Patriot. So it was not that I was down on him. But rather, With Brady trusting his other guys so much, how could Cooks fit?
Overall, it really seems like the kid has grasped the playbook and gained Brady's trust. I am incredibly excited to see the two working together this season.
