The struggling Boston Bruins look to get a win tonight when they faceoff with the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Two stellar players, Tuukka Rask and Sergei Bobrovsky will be tonight’s starting goaltenders. The Boston Bruins recalled Zane McIntyre from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis and he will backup Tuukka Rask in tonight’s game. David Krejci is still missing from the lineup as he is still dealing with an injury. Matt Beleskey will sit out once again and Danton Heinen remains in the lineup.
The Bruins will look to their top scorer, Brad Marchand, to do what he does best, agitate and make plays. Rookie defenseman Charlie McAvoy is already off to a great start and will look to move the puck through the neutral zone and give the offense some scoring chances. Youngsters Anders Bjork and Jake DeBrusk have been somewhat silent recently and will look to get themselves back on the scoring sheet tonight against Columbus. Torey Krug has really slacked off so far this season and needs to improve to help his team win some games. Krug is still recovering from his jaw injury so that’s more than likely why he hasn’t played too well so far this season. This will be Tuukka Rask’s second game back from having a concussion and he will be tonight’s player to watch for the Bruins as he looks to improve his game.
If the B’s want to win this game, they need to capitalize on scoring chances and really minimize the amount of mistakes that are made. The Blue Jackets are a good team and it will be tough to beat them if the B’s aren’t on their game. The Bruins are 2-0-2 in their last four games after going 2-3-0 to start the season.
Boston Bruins Leaders:
Goals: Brad Marchand, 7
Assists: Charlie McAvoy, 7
Points: Brad Marchand, 12
+/-: Zdeno Chara, +7
SV%: Anton Khudobin, .926 SV%
GAA: Anton Khudobin, 2.52 GAA
The Blue Jackets are 7-4-0 and sit in third in the Metropolitan Division. Vezina winner, Sergei Bobrovsky, will absolutely be on his game tonight as the Blue Jackets look to shut down the Bruins and climb in the standings. The Jackets could be without one of their top goal scorers, Cam Atkinson, because of an undisclosed injury. Even without Atkinson in the lineup, this Blue Jackets team will be tough to beat. Tyler Motte has been recalled by the Blue Jackets and will most likely fill in for Atkinson. Motte tallied 4 goals and 3 assists last season with the Blackhawks in 33 games played. This will be Motte’s first regular season game with the Blue Jackets since be acquired in the offseason.
The Jackets need to take advantage of any mistakes made by the Bruins and will need to force turnovers as Tuukka Rask has been known to be pretty shaky at times. Tonight’s player to watch for the Blue Jackets is goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky as he has a 1.86 GAA which is one of the best GAA’s in the league right now.
