HOUSTON, TX – In what was easily the most anticipated Red Sox game since the 2013 World Series, the Sox tossed up a dud & it didn’t take long for Houston’s potent offense to take the wind right out of the Sox sails. Jumping out to a first inning 2-0 lead, on back-to-back home runs, the Houston Astros controlled the pace of the game and manhandled the AL East Division Champions.
In what turned out to be a blowout, the Astros topped the Sox 8-2, putting Boston in a very tough situation. With a loss on Friday, Boston could be facing their second consecutive sweep in the first round on Sunday.
Boston’s only chance in this series is their pitching, but they’ll need to push more than two runs across the plate — Houston is on another planet when it comes to offensive baseball. Drew Pomeranz(17-6 3.32 ERA) has been the Red Sox stopper this season and will make his 1st playoff start on Friday afternoon. Big Smooth had an incredible season for Boston and will need to pitch one of the best games of his career in Game 2 of the ALDS.
FINAL SCORE: RED SOX 2 — HOUSTON 8
