Nike has announced it will no longer make any sort of golf equipment. This includes clubs, balls, and bags. On Wednesday August 3rd, 2016 Nike released this massage:
Nike, Inc. announced today that it will accelerate innovation in its Golf footwear and apparel business and will partner with more of the world's best golfers. With this new focus, Nike Golf will transition out of equipment -- including clubs, balls and bags.
"We're committed to being the undisputed leader in golf footwear and apparel," says Trevor Edwards, President, Nike Brand. "We will achieve this by investing in performance innovation for athletes and delivering sustainable profitable growth for Nike Golf."
sThat small message is the only concrete information that is floating around currently. However, the most interesting aspect of all of this is seeing how it affects the sponsored players. Some of the top names that are...or possibly in other words "were" sponsored are Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and plenty of other household names.
It truly is crazy to take a step back and realize what is actually happening. One of the, if not the, largest sporting brand is pulling out of a sport. I mean, Picture Rory hitting another type of club...freaky.
We will certainly have to keep a close eye and see how this turns out...
