LeGarrette Blount’s Career Milestone, Stars Sitting Out Bowl Games, Breaking Down Brock, and Much Much More!!!
For the record, the last time two teams made the Super Bowl, then missed the playoffs the following year was in 2003, when Tampa and Oakland both did not qualify for the post season after competing in the Super Bowl the year prior.
Belated congratulations to LeGarrette Blount on going over the 1000-yard rushing mark for the first time since 2010, as well as achieving a career high in rushing yards at 30-years old. The true work horse of the Patriots, Blount not only was a huge reason for the Patriots early season success during Brady’s 4-game suspension (352 yards and 4 TD’s), but also has allowed the offense to not rest solely on #12’s shoulders for the first time since Corey Dillon was in the backfield.
Speaking of the Patriots, if you’re keeping track at home, Michael Floyd’s 2015 Cardinals stats of 849 receiving yards were better than all 2015 Patriots except Gronk, and his 6 touchdowns last season would rank 3rd on the 2015 Pats behind Gronk and Edelman.
Speaking of receivers, the New York Daily News is suggesting that Brandon Marshall should sign with the Patriots if the Jets cut him next season. For the right contract, that is a player I would seriously consider.
Perhaps not surprising, the Celtics are currently 3rd in the NBA in assists per game (24.6), trailing only Houston and Golden State.
With the recent Clay Buchholz trade, the question Red Sox fans should be asking themselves is what the team is going to do with the $13.5 million they just saved in salary? Luxury tax or not, I’m looking at you John Henry and fact remains that ticket prices are going up in 2017.
While I completely understand Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey not wanting to get hurt prior to the NFL draft, sitting out a bowl game is a disgraceful act of sportsmanship and utterly disrespectful to the other 98% of their teammates who will not be in the NFL next season.
Don’t look now, but old friend Peter Chiarelli and the Edmonton Oilers are tied for first place in the Pacific Division heading into Christmas.
If you’re looking for an explanation for the recent struggles of the Portland Trail Blazers, consider the fact that they are giving up the 3rd most points per game (112), only ahead of Phoenix and Brooklyn.
I’m 12-0 with wins over Oregon, Michigan State, Louisville, and Xavier, yet I’m not being talked about with the “Blue Bloods” of college basketball. Who am I? The Baylor Bears
While Brock Osweiler has certainly struggled in Houston, his numbers aren’t substantially different from last year. See the following:
2015 Completion % 61.8 vs 2016 59.6,
2015 Pass Attempts Per Game 34.4 vs. 2016 33.6,
2015 Average Yards Per Throw 7.2 vs 2016 5.8
2015 6 INTS in 8 games vs. 16 in 14 2016 games
2015 10 TD’s in 8 games vs. 14 TD’s in 14 2016 games
The lesson here? Don’t make a QB your franchise without seeing at least a season of work under his belt.
Tyson Chandler to Golden State for Andre Iguodala & Zaza Pachulia (both expiring contracts). Who says no? Just for the fun of it, imagine Chandler rebounding and blocking shots in the low post surrounded by Steph, Klay, KD, and Draymond.
RIP to Craig Sager, a man whose brave fight against Leukemia was inspirational far beyond the sports world.
