Sorry Patriots fans, but I’m expecting Josh McDaniels to be at the top of the LA Rams coaching search. With at least a short-term investment in 2016 #1 overall draft pick Jared Goff, the brass will be looking for a coach with an established history of working with QB’s and McDaniels is at the very least going to be asked to interview.
Speaking of the Patriots, while I love Tom Brady more than any football player in the entire league, maybe ever, for my money Ezekiel Elliott is the NFL MVP. Substitute Dak for Romo and the Cowboys are still at least 7-5, but remove Elliott from the equation and you are looking at the team that was drafting in the top 5 last season.
Quiz of the week, in honor of Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, who was the last Heisman Trophy Winner to also win Super Bowl MVP? Answer near the bottom of the column.
Isaiah Thomas is currently ranked 12th in the NBA with the most 3-point shot attempts game (7) and 27th in 3-point shots made per game (2.2).
Believe it or not, but David Pastrnak is currently ranked 2nd in the NHL in goals scored with 18, trailing only Sid the Kid with 21.
For anyone that’s dying to trade Clay Bucholz, heed these words of wisdom; you can NEVER have enough starting pitching depth. If you start the season with 7 pitchers, you’ll most likely have 4-5 healthy by the All-Star Break. Just last year alone, 2 of the projected 2016 starting 5, Eduardo Rodriguez and Joe Kelly, were sidelined with major injuries before Mother’s Day.
Don’t look now, but the UConn Men’s Basketball team, currently 4-5, with losses to Wagner and Northeastern, is off to its worst start in 30 years. The Huskies will look to make up ground in an American Conference currently ranked 8th in the RPI.
You have to love the NFL’s efforts to promote the game in London while simultaneously having 3 of 4 games next season include the Jaguars, Browns, and Rams.
Ricky Rubio to Philly for Ilyasova, Nerlens Noel, and a 2018 1st round pick. Who says no?
Raise your hand if you’ve watched at least 1 full game of the World Baseball Classic in the last decade?
Five straight road games between December 22nd-29th for the Bruins leaves me thinking that Claude and company were on the naughty list this year.
Although the popular comparison for UCLA’s Lonzo Ball is Jason Kidd, I’ve also heard some Penny Hardaway/Derrick Rose DNA in the diaper dandy.
Quiz Answer: Desmond Howard won the Heisman for Michigan in 1991 and Super Bowl MVP for the Packers in Super Bowl XXXI
Johnny Damon went to the Yankees. Ray Allen went to the Heat. Adam Vinatieri went to the Colts. Sports is a business and watching the annual Army/Navy game allows me to forget that for one December Saturday afternoon each year. The players rarely become celebrities, the coaches aren’t using this job as a stepping stone, and the alumni are some of the greatest heroes our nation knows. There is nothing like it. Nothing compares to it. And never will.
