Jimmy Walker has won the 2016 PGA Championship. This is Walker's first career major win. He finished with a score of 14 under par. Day one Walker jumped out and grabbed the lead with a 5 under par 70 score of 65. It is now safe to say, Walker never looked back.
Walker was able to maintain his lead yes, but it was not an easy road for him. He had to constantly pull-off big shots and make crucial putts. Big names like Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Henrik Stenson, Brandon Grace, and others were constantly on his radar. Specifically Jason Day, Day applied pressure to Walker's conscious when he drilled an amazing eagle putt on 18 to move within one stroke of the lead.
However in the end, Day did not get close enough. Walker made a great flop out of the rough and two putted for the win.
Walker now joins Danny Willet, Dustin Johnson, and Henrik Stenson as one of the 2016 major winners. Coincidentally, all three of these guys clinched their first career major titles with these wins. That is great to think about. Apparently, 2016 was the year for first-time major winners and Jimmy Walker proved that today.
