We'll start with the good news here... Isaiah Thomas underwent successful surgery today to repair a ruptured ligament in his thumb. The good news only being that the operation was a success. However, everything else about this story is terrible. Yet another setback for him. This guy can't catch a break.
The injury occurred during routine workouts just a few days ago. Now, he is most likely going to miss the start of the season for his new team, the Wizards.
But forget that for a second... I couldn't care less about the Wizards opening the season or them having to deal with Isaiah's injury AND all of the concerns with John Wall as well. What I care about is how hard and far the fall has been for Isaiah. From averaging near 30 points per game for a city that absolutely LOVED him, to having multiple surgeries and missing a million games for a bunch of different teams in just a few years...
Let me be clear, this has 100-percent been a fall for him. However, I don't doubt he'll be back to playing some damn good ball. That said, every single time I get excited for him to prove more and more people wrong, it seems he suffers some sort of a setback. It is too bad, it really is. Just like this one. I was ready to watch him get back to being what he used to be and prove he is back. Fresh start with a new team, right? Wrong. Poof, another surgery that will keep him sidelined. Not to say it won't work out in Washington, but missing the start of a season will most likely have its consequences. Now, he may need to take a little extra time to feel out the vibe and rhythm of the team and the game itself.
Isaiah Thomas is someone I will always be a fan of. He takes everyone telling him "no" and simply proves them wrong. Over and over and over and over again. He is injured again and now I am sure there are so many more people that will jump on the "he'll never be back" wagon..
I can't wait to see more and more people proved wrong.
