Markelle Fultz, the first pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, has not exactly shined thus far into the 2017-18 NBA season. Averaging just over 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist per game the guard out of Washington is now raising the is he a bust narrative.
Markelle Fultz is no bust. At least, not yet. Sure, he is yet to truly breakout as an NBA player, but let us not forget the fact that the season is still very young. Fultz is also dealing with a shoulder injury. Though, I feel the injury is no real excuse.
I believe Fultz needs to acclimate to the NBA speed. He is coming from playing teams in college that were no where near as fast or as quick as he was. So, therefor he needs to refine his skill set and improve upon a few things that can be fixed. His awareness, handling, and shooting ability.
A month from now, no one will be referring to Fultz as a bust. Will he be the best player out of that class? I am not so sure about that. But a bust is a stretch.
Very rarely have we seen Philadelphia rookies get thrown into the fire and immediately start playing incredibly.
Again, Fultz just needs some time. He needs to figure out the NBA game, which according to many past and present players, is far different than playing NCAA ball.
So again I ask, is Markelle Fultz a bust? My answer, for now, is no.
