The trade is yet to officially and completely go through, yes. However, I am very confident that it will. There is no better offer out there for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Plain and simple.
There is no reason the Cavs should be seeking more from the Celtics. Boston already overpaid for Irving. They already sent the compensation for Thomas' hip injury.
For starters, the Celtics traded an MVP candidate for Irving. They then threw in what may (strong chance) be the top overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Already, that is a high price for Irving. On top of the two of those pieces, Boston sent over a young center in Zizic. Now, Zizic may not be much but nonetheless he is another piece to the pie.
Now let's not forget what else Cleveland got in this deal. They got the most valuable contract in the NBA. Jae Crowder is making chump change compared to what other NBA starters have been bringing in.
The Celtics have no reason to give up anything more. The only ones that think there is more to come seems to be the Cleveland front office.
It does not appear that the players in this deal think it'll be reversed.
The Cleveland website is also filled with images and articles about the new players on board.
The Celtics have been working out players (highlighted by Thomas Robinson) during this whole ordeal. They will only have an open roster spot if this deal were to go through.
Now, there is no 100%'s here. The trade may be altered in some way. My point is that in some, way, shape, or form the deal will go through to completion and the Celtics will end up with Irving. The Cavs will end up with what they originally asked for.
Now, if the Celtics feel they have to give up something else just to get this over with, what will they give up?
Rest easy. It will not be Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum. I have contacted multiple contacts and have received roughly the same answer. No.
What they may give up is one of their own '18 or '19 draft picks.
If this were to close the book, I would be alright with it. The Celtics' picks are not going to be worth much for the coming years, as they plan to be one of the better teams in the league. They will also have a flurry of youngsters.
So again, rest assured that (as Celtics fans) you will be seeing Irving in green come time for the season. This chaos will most likely be over soon. The Celtics gave the best offer for Kyrie the Cavs will ever find.
