“I was talking with the guys and I just wanted to get my first catch, my first hit, my first tackle and it’s all done now. It was tons of fun, I love this game,” Carr said. “Nights like tonight, being able to play in front of a home crowd, it’s kind of what you live for. Tons of fun.”
Well, he did a hell of a lot more than just getting his first catch. Austin Carr was one of the impeccable standouts in his Patriots preseason debut. The undrafted WR from Northwestern (where he also walked on) snagged five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. Not too shabby. Especially considering about three out of those five catches were fairly remarkable grabs. Most obviously the TD catch:
I mean wow. I had said to plenty others before the game that Carr and Hollister were on my must-watch list. Carr did not disappoint at all. Neither did Hollister, but that is another story for another day.
I truly believe Carr should snag a roster spot with the Patriots. If they need to cut someone to do so, cut Jacoby Brissett. Sure he's a good young QB, but there is no practical position for him on this team whatsoever. Brady is still kicking, Garoppolo is right behind him, Brissett has no value. Whereas, Austin Carr does. Sure he may be their 6th or 7th WR, but that is a position that injuries offer within. And quite often.
Carr has a TREMENDOUS story. He is a great kid with a great winner's attitude.
Do I think Austin Carr makes the team? Yes.
Do I think Austin Carr will continue to impress? 1000%
We have just began to crack the tab on Austin Carr. I expect plenty more Patriots fans get on my level when liking him. This is just the beginning for the kid.
