Let's start with the East. Has anyone heard of Isaiah Thomas? You know, the "Little Guy." The one that is torching every single defense he faces. The lefty that is averaging close to 30 points and 6 assists per game. The Boston Celtics' face of the franchise. The guy that dropped a career-high 44 points and followed it up with a new high of 52 points just days later. Not to mention, the NBA's leading fourth quarter point scorer. Oh yeah, THAT GUY!
Isaiah Thomas should've been a clear cut starter. Almost every voting channel and avenue had him projected as the starter. This is part of the reason why the NBA's fan voting system is bogus. Sorry Kobe, but you should not have even been an All-Star last year...never mind the highest vote-getter.
Thomas has been shocking the world with his play this season. Thomas is having a far better season than Kyrie Irving. Yeah, FAR better. It is not even close. That is the obvious one. However, he is arguably having a better season than all of the Eastern Conference starters other than LeBron. I would say with complete confidence he is having a better season than Kyrie, DeRozan, and Butler. Giannis and LeBron are tough to make a case against, but there is no need to. He simply should've been a starter over Kyrie in the first place. If someone were to tell me that Kyrie Irving is playing at a more deserving (of an All-Star starting spot) level than Isaiah Thomas, I would recommend they seek the nearest insane asylum and check in...for life.
Next, we have the West and speaking of the West...I do not see Russell WESTbrook's name on that list. Huh, that puzzles me. Do I need glasses? Am I reading this wrong?
Westbrook is averaging 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists per game. Yeah...that is a triple-double. Yeah...that does not get you a starting role, apparently. Oh our precious Steph Curry. Seriously? This guy is able to snag a starting spot of Russ. Curry is putting up a real competitive 24 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds a game in comparison to Westbrook's 30, 10, and 10.
Again, I am not saying Steph Curry sucks, nor that he does not deserve a spot as a starter, but there is a guy that just deserves it more. That is life. I feel like Steph is this golden child nowadays in the NBA. This just makes it clear. Westbrook is clearly the better player this season AND is far more capable of doing something electric for the game (from an entertainment perspective).
Let me ask you this...
If you were an NBA coach or GM (this season), would you rather Russell Westbrook for one game or Steph Curry for one game? To me, the answer should be so simple. So obvious. So right in front of your face. Russell Westbrook
Two guys that play with more passion than most got screwed here. Obviously they will both still be competing in the All-Star game, but nonetheless it is ridiculous that NEITHER Isaiah Thomas nor Russell Westbrook will be on the floor for the opening tip of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game.
