Holy crap. It's finally happening. I've been waiting so long for this day. Picture this scenario: I am sitting at work scrolling through my “professional” work Twitter when I see this tweet:
Instantly my mood shifts from this:
For additional info, here is a tweet from Jeff Passan, an MLB Insider for ESPN:
Fred and Jeff Wilpon, the Mets’ principal owner and chief operating officer, are in talks to sell up to 80% of the team to billionaire investor Steve Cohen. The deal would put the team’s value at $2.6 billion.
The Wilpons will still remain in their current roles for at least five years, then Cohen will get control of the franchise.
If you are a Mets fan, you have been personally victimized by the Wilpons. Year in and year out they continue to do nothing to help the organization grow or win.
Meanwhile, Cohen would be the richest owner in the MLB and it is already said that he wants to make a splash.
It's hard to imagine after years of losing and humiliation that someone who would willingly want that much stake in the New York Mets does not have big, big plans.
Wake me up in 2025.
