After four years with the New York Jets, free agent wide receiver Robby Anderson landed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday afternoon. His contract includes $12 million in the first year.
Anderson, 26, who had the second most receiving yards (779) and touchdowns (5) for the Jets last season, will rejoin Panthers’ head coach Matt Rhule. Anderson played under Rhule at Temple University in Philadelphia from 2013-2015. During Anderson’s time as a Temple Owl, he was a receiver for the Panthers’ newly acquired quarterback, P.J. Walker, who signed a two-year, $1.565 million deal with Carolina at the beginning of the week.

​In his four seasons with the Jets, Anderson brought speed and height to the roster, accumulating more than 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns in 47 games started.

The Jets were quick to replace him, though, as news broke shortly after that New York will sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Breshad Perriman to a one-year, $8 million deal with $6 million guaranteed.
Perriman, 26, is coming off a career season with the Bucs, after ending 2019 with 36 catches for 365 yards and six touchdowns.
The wide receiver has bounced around since he was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. After missing his first season due to injury, Perriman had 499 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2018, he signed with the Cleveland Browns and recorded 340 yards with two touchdowns.
Perriman had a chance to show his talent towards the end of last season, as the Bucs’ star receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, both missed time with injuries. He had a league-leading five touchdowns over the final four weeks of the 2019-20 season.
The small deal will save the Jets at least $4 million on the 2020 salary cap.
