D’Angelo Russell’s Snap Chat Story
Curry: The 2 time MVP leads the squad, providing ridiculous 3-point shooting range, opening opportunities down low for my front court. Fast enough to run an effective fast break.
Wade: He can score, he’s improved his 3-point shooting, he can defend, and he provides veteran leadership and championship experience. I want winners on this team.
George: I thought he was in his 30’s, but George is only 26! A proven scorer, George can score from anywhere on the court and is a matchup nightmare as a 6’9 small forward.
Aldridge: Efficient around the basket and a great rebounder, Aldridge is my rim protector.
Anthony-Towns: A young, high energy center who averages a double-double a night. Can’t go wrong with a big man with handles.
Wiggins: Wiggins is young, extremely athletic, and a natural scorer. Exactly what I want coming off my bench.
This team can score from every part of the court, has size, rebounders, rim protectors, a quick scorer coming off the bench, and most importantly, championship pedigree. Whether NBA champions, Olympic gold medalists, and tons of other big game experience. 7 game series? Good luck beating this squad 4 times.
My lineup is the best NBA for one reason. Strategy. I have 2 solid big men, 1 flex and two ball handlers with shooting ability. With the exception of Andre Drummond, and Demarcus Cousins, everyone can shoot the three ball. Cousins and Drummond would be busy bullying every other player for rebounds, while Isaiah Thomas, Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose, and Draymond could step in for a 16 footer or hit the three ball. Thomas and Lillard are ideal because they can both make plays and shoot yet also handle the ball. Meanwhile, Drummond and Cousins are simply too strong for most other NBA players, and have superior moves in the post.
Harden and the Beardettes
So, I have three of the top 10 NBA players per the Sports Illustrated top 100 list. Need I say more? James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Blake Griffin alone could take this team all the way, but throw in the fast and incredibly athletic John Wall along with the fundamentally sound and dominatingly methodical Marc Gasol and we have game over. The motto of this team will be “stop, score, stop.” With the addition of my 6th man, Hassan Whiteside, this team can both lockdown ANY other team on our slate (Kawhi, Whiteside, and Wall) and then score down the other end because there is no way to stop us. James Harden is one of the best and most creative scorers in the history of the game and Kawhi was the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year last year. So, with those two alone this team is stacked. However, we do not stop there. The athletic pairing of Wall and Griffin will run and jump any team out of the building. Then hey, if things need to be slowed down we got that covered too. Marc Gasol can take any of the other bigs here. Then toss in Hassan and we can put a lid on the rim with his shot-blocking and overall defensive ability. This team covers every single aspect you need to win in basketball. A few of the other teams put together here are just too one-dimensional.
If Harden and the Beardettes were to take on any of the other guys’ teams, the game wouldn’t last very long…
The One And Doners
PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: DeMar DeRozan
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Anthony Davis
C: Rudy Gobert
PG: Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving has some of best handles in the NBA that i've seen in years. He constantly shreds up my Boston Celtics and is new england cool under the clutch, as you saw when he buried the Golden State Warriors in game 7 of the NBA Finals with that last second dagger three.
SG: DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan is absolute thrasher on offense. It’s not often a SG would rather drive to the paint instead of jacking up a 3 every possession. He adds another inside threat to my team. He averages 28.2 PPG and is averaging 32.4 PPG over his last 5 games. He wears out all other opposing defenders trying to keep up with him.
SF: Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant the 6’9 lanky now lean SF can do anything he wants on the basketball court. He is shooting an impressive 53% from the field while averaging 8.7 rebounds and almost 5 assists per game. He matches up well against the most hated loved player in the world LeBron James. He was an easy pick for me, even though he dodged my Boston Celtics this offseason..
PF: Anthony Davis
I dare anyone to try and guard Anthony Davis. Him and that unibrow are the most unstoppable force in the NBA that I have seen in awhile. On any given night I believe that he could break Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point record, only because the Pelicans don’t have anyone else that is allowed to dribble the ball. Luckily with my team he won’t feel that pressure as he is surrounded with superstars who can score wherever and however they please.
C: Rudy Gobert
Rudy Gobert aka the “The Stifle Tower” can defeat an army. Joel Embiid, trust the process? Please, Gobert will make you never trust again. I believe when at center he can dominate any opposing center on the floor defensively, including the kat Karl Anthony Towns, DeAndre Jordan, Andre Drummond, and Pau Gasol. Sorry, Marc Gasol.
6th man: Jabari Parker
Jabari Parker is in the middle of a breakout season so why not throw him on my bench and let him nail some 3’s while my team is already up by 40 points. He is shooting 40% from three, which ranks near the top in the NBA. At only 21 and 6’8 he is becoming a great player at PF, and a player that could provide minutes on numerous spots on the floor.
My six man squad brings a lot of height, speed, and athleticism to the table. Wait, did I just describe 90% of the NBA? Possibly, but I stand by that statement. My team is full of guys who went to college for one year and made that big jump to the NBA. Besides Gobert of course, who played overseas. To make that jump you have to have some serious confidence, which these guys have lots of. My team can run up and down the court with the best of them. I would like to see a team try and break through my squad of defenders. When they see Kyrie at the top with DeMar and Durant hanging on the wings they may get a bit nervous; but once they look into the paint and see Anthony Davis And Rudy Gobert they pack their bags and get on the bus. I don’t see another team keeping up with my team in a playoff series, or even in just one game. My sixth man Jabari Parker is no slack, he will hit a 3 in your face, and turn around on defense and steal your ball and your girl. Good night.
Team Banana Boat
I have LeBron James. Yeah, the 2nd greatest basketball player of all time? You know, THAT guy? Yeah, he’s on my team. With him, I have 2 of his best friends in the whole world in Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, I have maybe the most perfect Lebron James teammate in Klay Thompson to shoot 3’s in the corner, I have Kevin Love to shoot 3’s in the other corner, and I also have the 3rd greatest basketball player of all time in Joel Embiid. This is the perfect team to put around Lebron James, and when you have the perfect team around LeBron James, you win. I have LeBron James so I win, don’t listen to these other guys. Do they have LeBron James? I’ll save you the time for checking, the answers no, they don’t have LeBron James and I do. Any other argument they make is invalid and I win. End of story. I haven’t mentioned Joel Embiid enough, so I leave you with this: Trust the Process, and Trust the Banana Boat.
Team Run it Up
Russell Westbrook is the best all-around guard in the NBA by a pretty wide margin. If you step too close he’ll drive right by you, but if you disrespect his range, he’ll make you pay. Not to mention, the man averages about a triple-double per game. No big deal.
Jimmy Butler’s averaging 25.6 PPG to this point in the season; yet, his defense is why he is on this team. He is 9th in the NBA in steals at 1.8 SPG, so you know this team will be running it up the court all game long.
The Greek Freak embodies everything it means to be a member of Team Run it Up. This 7 foot monster averages 2.1 blocks per game, 1.9 steals per game, AND is 4th in the NBA in dunks this season. Good luck dealin’ with that.
Standing at 7’3”, this Latvian mammoth shoots 42% from the 3 point line, and fits right into the shot blocking mentality of this team with a healthy 2 blocks per game.
DeAndre Jordan will beat your center down the court, and he will dunk on anyone who stands in his way EVERY DAMN TIME. Wait, you think you’ll win the battle on the boards? HA, good one. (13.4 RPG)
Why Gordon Hayward? 1. To stick it to Jae Crowder for trying to tell me who I can and can’t cheer for. 2. He hit a 3 OT buzzer beater against me in NBA 2K17 recently and I’m still mad about it. That’s all.
Team Run it Up is constructed of only the finest physical specimens that the National Basketball Association has to offer. Whether it be beating your entire team down the court on a fast break, or chasing you down to pin your weak stuff on the backboard à la LeBron James; the pure size and athleticism of Team Run it Up can not be contained. In the words of Kirk Cousins, “YOU LIKE THAT!”.
