This Red Sox season has been tough to watch recently, personally. Not because they aren't winning games, they are. But for another reason. Maybe it is the off field news, players on the team, or something else. Regardless, I was growing bored with this season. Until...
Christian Vazquez changed all that with one swing of the bat...
That walk-off home run was the one thing that has made me over-the-top excited this season. Yes, there have been other walk-offs. However, this team had just fallen out of first place and just had some off field issues. That swing of the bat was able to remind me why I am a Red Sox fan.
Now, I will admit I was starting to get "bored" of this team. And of this season. So that may be why I am valuing this play so heavily. But for me, this home run reinvigorated my fandom of this season and team.
Why? Well one reason is that two of their best players (Sale and Kimbrel) stunk. It seems that everyone has been relying on them for this entire season. But when they both when out and really stunk, the Sox offense was able to pick up their weight and win a game. THAT is why this game, that play, and that win mean so much to me.
I am back to being excited about Red Sox games. There was a long period of time this season that excitement was absent. No longer.
