Let me just say the most obvious thing. The C's NEED Isaiah in crunch-time. So what, they beat the Orlando Magic by 30 without Thomas, big whoop. Look at the Houston game where Thomas tweaked his groin and was not 100% late in the game. They lost due to a missed Al Horford layup. Had Thomas been healthy, he would be the one taking that shot. Hell, they may not have even been in that situation if he was healthy as the game moved along.
Now lets look at the Toronto game. EVERYONE and I mean everyone should've been able to tell they were missing IT in the crunch-time. They lost that game, and pretty much threw that game away in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Hmmm, where does Isaiah strive? Oh, right... the 4th quarter... Even head coach Brad Stevens told the media they needed Isaiah in the late part of that game.
They then took on OKC and lost an absolute nail-biter. Well, yeah they played great that game. Smart, Brown, Rozier all stepped up. However, any fan watching could tell there was no offensive confidence in the team. They were scoring late in the shot clock and making jumpers. Brown was indeed getting to the rim, but it was in a reckless fashion. That is no bash on him, but there was just no smooth offensive flow. That is where they need IT. He can do so much offensively.
Other than those specific games, there are plenty of other reasons Thomas makes this team better. For starters he is the leader of this team both on and off the court. How can you just up and trade your leader? He is also the point guard... Quite possibly the most important position on the court, hence the floor general synonym.
Also, taking a realistic standpoint, there is not much you can get for Isaiah that would exceed his contribution to this team. He is not an absolute superstar. He is an All-Star, yes, but he is not this ultra hot commodity that any team would give up elite players or draft picks for.
Isaiah Thomas has been deemed the Celtics' face of the franchise this season. How can you just go and trade away your most valuable player?
The funniest thing about all this is that NO ONE in the actual Celtics organization nor any legitimized Celtics personnel have said anything about this. It is all the media... Isaiah mentioned this:
"They gotta write something. They say the stupidest things so they get the headlines and everybody can talk about it. I can't control that. At this point, I laugh about it now. Because it's like, if you really think that, OK, that's fine. I know what I mean to my teammates, I know what I mean to this organization and to (coach) Brad Stevens."
So, there you have it. All you media personnel out there know you do not even believe what you are saying. That much is obvious. Thomas is the most crucial player on this team...
Everyone always thinks the grass is greener on the other side. Well it does not get any greener than Isaiah Thomas in that Boston Celtics green.
He is here to STAY.
